Pipe-smoking alien crop formation

Pipe-smoking alien crop formation
This humorous crop formation was discovered in a corn field near Wiltshire, U.K. on August 3, 2011.

When intricate crop circles first started appearing in the 1980s, I was utterly amazed and mystified by them. I was never convinced that they were created by visiting extraterrestrials, as some believe, but I was puzzled by how the sometimes amazingly complex (and huge) formations could have been made by people.

Now, however, there is no doubt in my mind that all crop formations are made by some very clever people. What is still interesting, though, is that some crop formations have very peculiar characteristics, such as exploded nodes on the plant stalks, which might point to the use of high heat or microwave radiation. If there's any mystery remaining, it is how exactly they are made.

I suspect some are really made with wooden planks and rope, as Doug and Dave demonstrated. But is it possible that some of these formations are created by satellite-directed microwaves? This could account for the anomalies as well as the scale and precision of some designs.

The smoking alien above was made by pranksters, obviously,?yet in a news article about it one crop circle researcher still wonders if it might be "real" -- that is, made by non-humans. That, to me, is being in denial.
